Clik! and Mavica

Let's not forget that Sony has invested tens of millions of dollars to develop and place on the market the Mavica digital camera which uses the "old" 2.44 MB floppy as its storage device! If this makes sense, then the equivalent camera with a Clik! will be a market beater. And no need to target the low end initially. $100 OEM will be enough to gain sufficient market share with mid-range $300-$600 cameras. Prices will drop drastically as volume ramps up, and even low-range cameras will come into play (remember the days when floppy drives cost well over $100?).

But keep in mind that IOM is right at the bleeding edge of new technology with Clik!. It needs to ensure ruggedness, performance and reliability before entering market full bore. So I don't mind at all the delay, provided IOM eventually delivers a sound product. Same concerns apply to Jaz2. If IOM comes through with their promises on both, no matter how long the delay, the last few months of uncertainty will soon become a forgotten footnote in history.

But they gotta deliver!

P.S. We should also not forget that Zip is now three year old technology, which IOM is using as cash cow in absence of serious market competition (forget the SyQuest hype). I would be very surprised if IOM does not have a "new and improved" model waiting in the wings.
