You really got me curious about this topic.

I have a 2017 iMac and I never really thought much about this situation before. However, Apple claims to have the answer.

Disk Utility, their application for partitioning, erasing, etc, says that it can be set to overwrite seven times. Probably takes quite a while, but military grade - very cool.
