Stan, Allen's info about the padded heads is probably relevant
to the Clik product as well. I bet they move the heads in from
the side edge like in the Zip whereas a floppy opens a window
on the disk and then the disk is moved down into contact with
the head or the head moves to meet the disk (I am not sure).
If Clik uses the Zip mechanism, it should protect the media well.
.. All the arguing about price of Clik vs. Flash mem is silly.
We are just guessing. If Clik is basically a miniature Zip,
then the design problems may be expensive as well as initial
production yields, but once ramped up the Clik drives will be
cheaper to make than the 1.4 MB floppy drives and the Clik disks
will also get about as cheap as the floppy disks. With volume
and a tiny product, cost of manufacture almost becomes irrelevant,
and the real cost is distribution, marketing, outwitting the
competition. If Clik becomes a brand as Zip has become a brand,
we are off to the races on profits.

Long on Intel and Iomega

PS: Can't get over Rockhead is back to trashing IOM while he
bought into it a few weeks ago, presumably at 8 3/4ths. And
he touted AOL like crazy in the 90's and then shorts it at $111.
What a silly guy. He says he only lost three percent. My guess
that must be $30 he lost. He will have to eat dogfood for a week.
What a winner!
