It is bizarre how many on this thread are blinded by some odd desire to see Russia win a war of aggression.

In spite of the fact that I was married to a Ukrainian woman (ethnic Russian from Lugansk) and have been in the country 5 or 6 times and at one time, back in the 90's, explored doing business there, I have no dog in the fight. I just resent the hell out of sending billions of our tax dollars and military gear to what's basically a tribal dispute that's none of our affair.

Ukraine's current borders are an artificial construct, much as was the case in the former Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia and elsewhere. Europe has always been tribal and tribal conflicts have been going on there for countless centuries. Eastern Ukraine and Crimea are mostly Russian, ethnically and linguistically. Western Ukraine is Ukrainian, ethnically and linguistically, with a few other minority populations thrown in.

If the US and NATO would butt out, this nasty war would be over in a hurry. Political and economic corruption is rife on both sides, but again, I wish we'd just stay the hell out of it..

Edit: IMO, there are no "good guys" to root for. It's not a football game..
