This doesn’t sound like a Democracy. “They” sound more like a bunch of revolutionaries who managed to grab a lot of power - and now, are making up rules on the fly, ad hoc - not based on any laws or democratic principles, like respect for the citizens and for their rights.
They can lie - and when their lies become obvious, shut down the conversation. Order silence.
Reminds me of the acts by the ruling elite in St Petersburg, after the Bolshevik coup. Famous story, actually. One day, Lenin and the little oligarchy of his top lieutenants issued “historic” proclamations - ownership of all land to be transferred to the peasants, and factories - to the workers. They had no intention of doing it, not for one second. But, it quickly generated additional support, at a critical moment. And then, the new law of the land… simply died, never to be mentioned again. |
