"History" is too full of lies and distortions to be of much value. History is written to manipulate minds,
Carl Jung for many years refused to write his autobiography. He was of an opinion that it’s the most untrustworthy genre. A person writing an autobiography ends up mythologizing the story of their lives. They end up writing a narrative they may like better than they liked the reality. (Eventually, he did write one, but it was mostly a story about how his various ideas and theories were born and evolved over time).

More to the point, you are right - but those lies and distortions reflect human interests and passions - similar to the ones that drove real events. They overlap. It also helps to read the same story written by different authors.

Without a written history it’s as if nothing ever happened.
