I already covered this last week, when I claimed that I could attract a ton of funding by making models of "climate change":

Here's my key assertion:
Remember, there is absolutely no way to verify that my results are accurate, especially if they're meant to predict the future 35 years out. By that time, it won't matter whether I was right or wrong, because I will have already secured even more funding to continue my research.
The point is that there are no consequences for getting the predictions wrong. Al Gore once predicted that the world would end in 10 years. That didn't happen, but he's still regarded as more credible than Harold Camping.
