This is definitely the case. There is a tremendous amount of misinformation and blatant lies freely available online. The "freedom" of the internet has definite disadvantages. In the old days, newspapers and books had editors who would (usually) remove or correct the worst untruths, while of course not publishing the whole truth. Now there are no editors, and anything goes. A free-for-all.
