I recently heard a fascinating analysis recently of how the 'superhero' concept is perfectly aligned with extreme right wing ideology in that it idealizes the idea of a 'perfect person' that is perfect for denigrating those who don't fit the model. The argument was much more complex and nuanced; if I can find a link I will post it.

BTW, I never bought into the utility of Nietzsche's concept of the superman either. To me you can draw a clear line from Nietzsche to Nazi-ism.

And just this weekend I heard another interesting analysis of how perfect Tolkein's Middle Earth is for white supremacist ideologues like Italy's current Prime Minister. I did read Lord of the Rings as a kid but found it disturbing and distasteful in parts, and now I understand better why.
