I rarely search for current news so I have not noticed that. I have always been able to find what I want with DuckDuckGo.

But it is really important in my value system to minimize interaction with data predators like Google. I do still have a gmail account but use it only for one specific function, so Google has a skewed impression of me. Unfortunately I am forced to have dealings with other data predators like Microsoft and Yahoo, but I keep it to a minimum whenever possible, and also try to keep the use narrowly focused so my data is less representative of what I really do.

IMO all data predators should be forced to get our consent and pay a fee each time they harvest even one piece of our data and meradata.

People just don't think this Faustian bargain through. It's a similar mental lapse to those who think loyalty programmes save money. I had a revealing conversation waiting in the lineup for a cashier yesterday with several people who were unable to grasp that loyalty programmes operate by taking extra money from you then giving only part of it back. If there were no loyalty programmes prices would be lower, at a minimum by the cost of administering the loyalty programmes.
