The ridiculous part to me is... expecting safety because... as the cartoon I posted the other day showing the computer walking... and the plug coming out of the wall... it can't open a bank account.
"The AI" can't open a bank account... but, I can... If there's an easy and obvious way to make money from plugging an AI into a computer and telling it to go make money for me... why would I not open a bank account for it... and let it do whatever the hell it wants to do ? Oh, I'd still be liable ?
Not only can I open a bank account, I can form a new corporation... have it own the computer/AI... and put the AI in control... Establish it "off shore" if you like, not only for the tax avoidance reasons... but, now... the AI has legal "personhood"... the ability to send itself across borders without even needing an airline ticket... and, also, yes, now, it could open its own bank account... as corporations do all the time, without ever showing up in person to do it. If it runs the corporation... it can hire and fire who it wants, and direct them to act for it in the ways it deems useful... just as all the humanoid bots running corporations do now...
I've seen a lot of small companies where the CEO, CFO, etc., provide services under contract, with each hired and paid by the company... through the agency of the personal corporation of each of those persons...
What prevents me from forming a personal corporation for each AI... the corporate person of which then can... do what it wants to in interacting with others as a legal person ?
The AI itself doesn't have legal personhood... but the corporation does... so, what's the difference ?
Then, as the mimickry of robots that look like humans gets better... all you have to do is... is...
