They TRIED to slow down, and with Obama admin electric upgrades to the brakes they probably could have.

Old style brakes initiate in each car one by one sequentially... they wait until one doesn't work well enough then another comes on then another, so the last train cars push on the front cars making disasters like this more likely.

Obama's electronic rules meant the brakes on EVERY car go on at once stopping the train much faster. Obviously.
