Negative income could be an offset. BUT is it return of capital? The first box on the K-1 is Business Income, and it's negative in 2021 for both EPD and MMP. No idea why. Whether it's return of capital isn't discussed, I think. There's lotsa other boxes in the K-1, so maybe they explain what you're asking. With passive income, you can only do that so much or it becomes treated as income after the original capitalization is exceeded in return of capital. I think with these quality MLPs the best approach is just hold them forever, die, and then your heirs inherit with stepped up cost basis.
