Seems a lot like the debates from a hundred years ago between gradualism and catastrophism in geology... with the dominant gradualists not believing for a second that something like the Missoula Floods could ever happen. It's puzzling, today... when you can look at the moon easily enough, and see all those craters... that you could also believe "that could never happen here" ? So, OK... gradualism... as the "trust the science" we were all required to believe, then... Only, as a school child, remember looking at a map, noting the obvious similarities between the coast of western Africa, and that of eastern South America... and, drawing the obvious conclusion... which pretty much everyone who looked at a map would. Except, no... said the "experts"... that couldn't possibly happen... not even gradually.
And, today... evolution... but, only if gradual... over millions of years... as we've seen in the fossil record ?
