French town screwed by political decisions...

I think that describes northern Michigan, too... the reason there's likely to be a lot of unhappy campers... as, like a lot of other "beautiful" parts of the country, where distantly made politics have determined that the local residents will have to find a way to survive... by eating that beauty...

All they have up there... is logging, mining, hunting, fishing, and tourism... and politics has determined to deny them benefits from each of those... leaving "the dole"...

You'll find similar lots of places... probably even a bit of it in lithium mining country in China, today...

Governments create problems... then "solve" them by creating more... without ever caring who gets hurt... which is almost always those with least the responsibility in and fewest options for... imposed change.
