To All, "Steve Job is interviewing the candidates of new CEO right now."
The Orange County Register, Calif., Business Briefs Column Feb. 12 (The Orange County Register/KRTBN)-- APPLE CLOSING IN ON HIRING CHIEF EXECUTIVE: Apple Computer Inc. has narrowed the candidates for chief executive to fewer than five, and a decision is expected next month, the recruiter leading the search said. Steve Jobs, Apple's interim chief executive, is interviewing the candidates now, said John Thompson, vice chairman at Heidrick & Struggles, which has been leading the search since Gilbert Amelio left the ailing personal-computer maker in August. "We are keeping our fingers crossed. We're close to a decision in the next 30 to 45 days," Thompson said. Apple has been looking for a chief executive for several months, and co-founder Jobs, who returned to the company 11 years after being forced out, has said he doesn't want the job. Thompson said the profit of $47 million in the first quarter has made his job a little easier. Apple posted losses for the previous four quarters, and in the past two fiscal years Apple has reported losses totaling $1.86 billion and cut 30 percent of its work force. "Now that Steve has returned the company to profitability, the timing is excellent," he said. He declined to name any of the possible candidates.
