Doren,
I thought the best they could do is retreat under darkness from Bakhmut, let the Russians come in from all sides, let them concentrate, shell the fuck out of them, then attack with their new tanks.
Ukraine is performing perhaps the slowest withdrawal in modern history.

They've also positioned lots of forces on the flanks of the Vagner thugs, which has alleviated some of the pressure on Bakhmut and the resupply routes. RuZZia understandably pulled some forces away from Bakhmut, fearing a repeat of the Kharkiv rout.

Whether or not Ukraine actually counterattacks with their forces, or whether they are just posturing in order to further extend the timeline for the Bakhmut withdrawal, is anyone's guess.

But the Jewish comedian in Kyiv has proven to be cunning and resourceful, so I trust that whatever decision he makes will turn out to be the "correct" one in hindsight.
