While many of us love British murder mysteries, the real stats are interesting. The UK has 67 million people but less than 1000 murders per year, with 100-something due to firearms. The 48 counties have less than 20 murders per year on average. No doubt, the big cities account for the lion's share.

So murders in quaint English villages are very rare indeed.

The US population is 5 times larger with 26,000 murders and 21,000 gun deaths among those.
