| |   | Just burn down FBI and DOJ. It used to be they represented the best, now they apparently represent the worst. This is definitely not the DOJ where I started my career back in the 1980’s.
I just finished reading “The Fall of the FBI,” by Thomas J. Baker (not to be confused with James Baker, former FBI general counsel and Twitter exec). The author is a former high-ranking Special Agent with the FBI. He was involved in investigating the Reagan assassination attempt and worked on mob-related cases in NYC and Boston.
A few excerpts from the book:
The ultimate offender is Comey. The demonstrated abuse of power by Comey, McCabe, Strzok, and others has undermined public trust in the FBI. And a law enforcement agency depends on public trust to be effective in a democracy.
When explaining the FBI in the past, I and others would often stress how blessed the United States was to have as our domestic security service a law enforcement agency. An organization that works within the guidelines of the law, to protect our democracy. The coin has now flipped, I fear the United States may be cursed to have a domestic intelligence organization with police powers. A once great agency may now have become a threat to democracy.
We may never get the Bureau culture back to the one I lived with and loved in the pre-9/11 era. But the effort of reform is worth it, noble, and direly needed.
My review of the book is on Goodreads.
