Washington Mutual was the largest bank failure ever. That happened on September 25 2008.

The stock market bottomed on March 9, 2009.

The US bear market of 2007–2009 was a 17-month bear market that lasted from October 9, 2007 to March 9, 2009, during the financial crisis of 2007–2009. The S&P 500 lost approximately 50% of its value, but the duration of this bear market was just below average.

Will the market follow a similar path post Silicon Valley Back failure? It would not surprise me at all. That would leave us with an ultimate bottom around 6 to 7 months from now. During that time the Fed needs to reverse course and start easing. I think that will happen. In the meantime a lot more pain is all too possible in my humble opinion. One very good thing to keep in mind is that the SOX and related stocks have definitely been an area of relative out performance.
