C3.ai (NYSE: AI) and SoundHound AI (NASDAQ: SOUN) were among the artificial intelligence-linked stocks in focus on Thursday as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce laid out a report in which it calls for regulation of AI.

The 14-page long report from the business lobbying group notes that AI is expected to increase global GDP by $13T by the end of the decade, but it will have an impact on areas such as national security and privacy, making it important that it is regulated in a responsible manner.

"We must address these issues clearly so that we can shape appropriate responses and achieve our goal, which is to allow the innovation machine to continue to work its magic and improve society, while protecting the basic rights of citizens," the Chamber of Commerce wrote in the report.

The Chamber added in the report that over the next 20 years, "virtually every business and government agency" will use AI, noting that it will have a "profound" impact on society, the economy and national security.

"A failure to regulate AI will harm the economy, potentially diminish individual rights, and constrain the development and introduction of beneficial technologies," the Suzanne Clark-led group explained.

Last month, it was reported that the European Union is working on regulating artificial intelligence, but the 27 country bloc has run into delays.

The report laid out several pillars for AI regulation, focusing on efficiency, neutrality, collegiality, flexibility and proportionality. In addition it made several recommendations for what lawmakers should do so as to bolster global competitiveness while still focusing on national security.
