John, Jitney trades are a legal method that can be misused. I do not know how much of it happens. I think you might like following this trail.

Vancouver Investment Dealers & Brokerage Firms Listed By Numerical Sequence
This segment has been provided to give investors the ability to monitor through previous trades data availalbe from the Vancouver Stock Exchange trades made by VSE investment dealers & brokerage companies.

Markets West has provided the VSE broker identification numbers in sequence. These identification numbers are used when a VSE brokerage firm processes a trade. It can be a buy or a sell order for the firm. Investors can easily see the numbers shown below if they request a copy of the previous trades on a particular company(s) from their broker. Note: some VSE broker firms allow other firms to process buy or sell orders through there brokerage firm on half of the other brokerage firm, this is call a Jitney trade. Usually done by an investor/promoter or group of investors to hide their activities in a particular stock(s).
