Rusty,
Before I begin, I do have one question for you. Did you read the ASCII Wizard info screens about the ASCII data file requirements?
I got a copy of Investor Insight and looked at what they have for 'data export'.
First, the XLS output format is just that: an Excel binary format data file. EZ-PnF does not read this format.
Second, the 'CSV' output is a Ticker,Close,Date format with MM/DD/YY date layout and the data is separated by commas. But the date format does not have leading zeros. So EZ-PnF will not read this type of date data. As an aside, though, Classic P&F charting (the type Tom Dorsey does) requires that the chart be constructed with daily High and daily Low prices. So any chart you get, and you would be able to get one if the dates had leading zeros (reading dates without leading zeros will have to be on the front burner for EZ-PnF for the future), would not look like charts that you might find elsewhere.
Third, the 'TXT' format has lines of text material in the file before the data begins. Not allowed by EZ-PnF. The price data is in 'fraction' format. Not allowed by EZ-PnF as stated in the ASCII Wizard info screens. There are also lines in the data records with the text 'n/a' in place of price data. Also not allowed by EZ-PnF. EZ-PnF won't read this format.
So, it boils down to the only option for II would be a modified 'CSV', which really is a 'Quicken' closing price only ASCII format.
You will not be able to 'make this d thing work' so, please do not waste any more time trying.
If you do wish to use EZ-PnF, at this time, I must suggest that you get your data from another source. Or, perhaps, use the export capabilities of Excel to create an EZ-PnF readable data file that meets the EZ-PnF User-ASCII data file requirements. I do not own a copy of Excel, so I am basing my opinion on what I know about Quattro and Lotus 1-2-3.
Thank you for your interest in Ez-Pnf and bring Investor Insight to our attention.
