To all: when customers sign up for a free month of AOL, does AOL recognize them as a member at that point in time, or does AOL wait until they actually start paying (i.e., after the free month) to count them as members?

In regard to the earnings warning. Well, let's see. The street is currently looking for 25 cents in the March quarter, although what exactly that includes/excludes is beyond me (e.g., how AOL accounts for XCIT gains). AOL earned (well, they said they did <G>) 17 cents in the December quarter.

-Usage so far this quarter, up over 10% per member compared to prior quarter.
-Won't have $17 million in rebates from service providers.
-Compuserve added during quarter, AOL has already announced they are currently losing money (anyone's guess as to how much).
-Won't have impact of Christmas revenues.
-May have additional churn from pricing announcement.

No wonder they may not hit the number. And this is besides the fact they are going to take up to $34 million in separate charges for the quarter. Amazing, this company actually can separate things out of the income statement when they feel like it.
