Tenchu's Thoughts: It's Not The Crime, It's the Cover-Up
For Trump, as so often occurs, it’s not the crime, it’s the coverup (msn.com)
If everything centers around hush money to a pron star, then by itself it shouldn't warrant anything more than a virtual slap on the wrist. The only "mistake" Trump made is paying the pron star with campaign funds instead of our of his own pocket. That tells me that his only mistake here was being unbelievably cheap about how he pays his hookers.
My guess, however, is that most of the charges will center around the cover-up, including falsifying records and going to great lengths to conceal something that, in pure political terms, didn't matter at all. That's where the Trump supporters are coming up with the "misdemeanor elevated to felony" line.
Remember how the left defended Bill Clinton during the Lewinsky scandal? They claimed that Bill didn't commit perjury because anyone would have lied about receiving a blow job while in the Oval Office. It's as if it's OK to break the law when you're trying to cover up something that, in YOUR mind, is "no big deal," like an affair with an intern or a pron star. Now we see the shoe is on the other foot.
The article above brings up other examples of "it's not the crime, it's the cover-up."
+ Watergate + Iran-Contra Affair + Martha Stewart + Scooter Libby
Hypocrites Calling Hypocrites Hypocrites
Are the Democrats trying to milk this indictment for political points? Of course. Didn't the Republicans do likewise during the Lewinsky scandal? Does that mean powerful politicians are above the law simply because any attempt to enforce it is an "obvious plot" by their political opponents?
By the way, the cowardice of Republicans never ceases to amaze me. Already they want DA Alvin Bragg's head on a platter. Already they are assuming that the charges, which mind you have yet to be released, are bogus. Again, it's like they're assuming that breaking the law is irrelevant because anyone would cover up something that, in their mind, is "no big deal."
That Soros Thingy
Finally, is Alvin Bragg a "woke" DA that believes in "restorative justice" for common criminals? Of course he is.
Does that make him a Soros-appointee? I believe that label is justified simply because he is just one of many "woke" DAs across the nation that is carrying out the left-wing vision of Soros' organization, Open Society Foundation. There's evidence that said "woke" DAs are pursuing this agenda against the will of the people, which highly suggests an underhanded "conspiracy" at work here.
Is this an "anti-semitic dog whistle"? I don't believe so.
But does that mean Trump should be let off the hook for what he did? Absolutely not.
