Its sadly true that we jail more people per capita than any other country in the world, and have more cops, but despite that we're the most crime ridden... but its also true that everyone in Switzerland owns an "assault" rifle but the don't murder each other at nearly the rate we do. Neither side is willing to look at statistics and admit... we're an unjust violent society. Injustice and self infatuation are the root causes of our violence. We've forgotten and abandoned the protestant ethic, and Socrates thinking on where true happiness comes from. He thought you have to define happiness or virtue before you could debate how to be happy or virtuous. I see no change even with more cops and more gun control. People are only moral if they understand what morality is. Roomba vacuum cleaners and antiseptic suburbs bring neither safety nor happiness.
