bob, I suspect that the brand new posters are NOT those waiting for last Monday's dip nor are those sitting on the sidelines because Biotechs traditionally don't do well at this time of the year (interestingly, CBNC began talking about a February effect which replaces the January effect which was eliminated by the Asian flu).

Yesterday's action may give you a clue. LGND traded a record number of shares (1,967,000) on a record number of ticks (over 2000). The web site, which is just over a month old, has registered almost 20,000 hits. Many of these are potential new investors who may read this board. Others could be lurkers who are fed up with the meaningless and repetitive posts appearing all too frequently on this board.

The 20,000 hits to the web site are a good indication that there are far more lurkers than posters (most of the web site visitors came from the boards although many have now book marked the site).

I suspect that many of the lurkers (SI members and non-members) share the view of some of this morning's posters. Few enjoy the squabling (other than the squablers) and would like to see such posts cease.

As far as "something holding back LGND's price" is concerned, you might be interested in this recent post from Mike Burke:
