We have two types of pelicans in North America... *The American white pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos)* en.wikipedia.org These are the iconic birds of my childhood at our lake cabin in Minnesota. How I loved watching them soar high in the blue sky on updrafts over a nearby glacial moraine! White pelicans are larger than the brown pelicans breeding in southern coastal areas, and they feed on the water surface instead of diving underwater.
