Dear Jane,
According to my understanding of salvation we only need to believe to be saved so anyone who believes Jesus is Lord will be saved. It is impossible to earn salvation we all agree on that and that is a deffinate. So people who are up to their ears in sin are affecting theirs and others lives drastically by the consequences of their choices. How many times was the entire Nation of Israel disciplined for the sin of one person in particular? God does not changed we have grace through confession 1 John 1:9 but consequences are still their not to punish but to train and save us from the enemy. Maybe others have not suffered as much discipline as I have but when you do it will get your attention and produce an everlasting change in your heart. I want others to hear that eternal life is not so important (that to me is the essence of emphasizing grace) what is important is knowing Him without wanting anything but to know Him.
One other important scripture to use to encourage others to walk with Him in obedience is in Luke, The man who built His house on the rock is the man who hears these words of mine and PUTS THEM INTO PRACTICE, that is the man that can withstand the storms that are ahead of us. So please understand I only want to encourage people to focus totally on Him and Him alone. We see His will through the scriptures and prayer and joining Him in His work we learn from His word. By feeding a person who is truly hungry or giving cloths to someone who is without you will know Him and His will. This will not win eternal life but it will show us who He is and what His will is. That is how we learn faith as well, if I have 10.00 and my sister has none and is hungry obedience would call for me to give her 5 and we both can eat.
I know you understand this but I feel like saying it anyway. Have a blessed day, Nancy
