Robert,

There are many very good reasons why Intel will continue to prosper.
One example is the tremendous amount of capital, both (1)monetary and (2)intellectual, that would be required to compete with INTC. The Japanese have #1 but they are not good at continuously innovating cutting edge technology. The are very good at taking our ideas, improving on them, and getting quality products to market quickly. This is bad for computer box makers, commodity chip makers etc. but NOT for INTC. As for Cyrix and AMD, if they were not allowed to copy Intel's chips they would be out of business. The only development that would convince me otherwise would be for one of them to introduce a chip that was faster than Intel's fastest chip. I'm sure more SI's will respond many more good reasons, so I'll give you just one more that you may not have seen before.....

Forget about stocks and investing for a minute and just sit back and try to think what our future might look like. My vision of the future was shaped by the sci-fi writers of the 50's and 60's. If you want to read about where we are at today read Jules Vern and similar writers of the last century. The neat thing about sci-fi is that people read or watch the stuff and then they go out and make it happen.
My point: Every futuristic book or movie I have read or watched pictures a world dependent upon a very advanced network of computers. We haven't seen anything yet, we're just getting warmed up. Who is going to make this vision a reality? I've placed my bets on INTC and CSCO.
