Anyone who wants to avoid State taxes legally, as a nomad, can do it very easily. South Dakota allows any US citizen to become a resident of the State in one day right after one has made a one day stay at a motel or campground in the State. Just bring the receipt to a DMV, along with birth certificate or passport, along with proof of ownership of your vehicle and have your mail forwarded wherever you choose to live at the time. There are no vehicle inspections or reason to come back for renewal until 5 years are up.
