Of course Russia is in a bind, and that includes Putin. 0.15 billion people holding the line against 1.1 billion super well financed, armed, vicious and full of hubris moron megalomaniacs aimed directly at them.
Russia is in a no-win position. They can only survive by China, India and others providing some externality for economic continuation. Fortunately for Russia, it is very much a good idea for China, India and others to help Russia hold the line because after Russia is destroyed, the megalomaniacs will be after China, India et al. The best Russia can do is hold the line until the attackers get tired of it.
One would think that Christian ideology of live and let live, self-determination, free will, do unto others as you'd have them do unto you, VVVs, etc would have drawn Russia into the Western World. But VVVs are thin on the ground in the so-called Free World these days, and were never fully adopted anyway, so Russia was hated on, denigrated, sanctioned, and kept at bay while treated as enemy. China took the opportunity.
What's quite interesting is that evil bastards don't see themselves as evil. On the contrary, they think God is on their side and that they are the Good Guys. It's a strange but true paradox. Each person's ego of course disposes them to take a highly self-oriented view of their possible various courses of action and looking after number 1 is an essential aspect of staying alive and doing well in life. So it's a problem that easily arises.
And can't actually be avoided when the Tragedy of the Commons combined with Malthusian pressure means somebody has to die due to lack of resources necessary to stay alive. But the average Yank is so obese that lack of food is not their driving mechanism. It's megalomaniac ego full of hubris as far as I can see.
Ending the world over political control of Crimea seems to me to be a particularly stupid idea. Claiming Crimea belongs to Zelensky, USA, UK and co-conspirators is particularly absurd. But that's what has led directly to the situation now. Now it's not just Crimea but the four other countries too - Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. And maybe a lot more besides.
Maybe if the letter Z was eliminated from the region, everything would work out fine and they wouldn't be so angry. The Russians even put a Z on their tanks. Zelensky, Nazi, Too much Z. Zbigniew Brzezinski started it to avenge the horrors of Nazi and Stalinist mass murdereing. Swap out the Zs and see how they feel then. Zbigniew wanted to give USSR their own Vietnam 44 years ago in Afghanistan, but he ended up giving the USA another Vietnam there by backing Osama bin Laden and Islamic Jihad against the pleasant civilized Gorby = BIG mistake.
The USA has a LOT more to lose than does Russia so they cannot win in the upcoming MADness. They can't even turn Russia to glass as there's too much of it. Meanwhile USA is more compact and dependent on vast integrated systems that will stop functioning even if only half the Russian megatons get through. 330 million Americans go down the gurgler compared with 150 million Russians. The Preppers in the hinterlands of USA will survive, but not much else.
A $23 trillion economy destroyed along with 329 million people is a LOT more to lose than Russia's $2 trillion economy and 140 million people. Add to the USA losses the Euroserf losses of $16 trillion and 750 million people and Team USA/Euroserf will lose $40 trillion vs $1 trillion and 1 billion people vs 0.1 billion people.
Being brutal, there are some people in the world who would consider extinction of USA/Eurostan as a good thing or maybe no great loss. Of course survival systems would collapse around the world so billions more would die from lack of spare parts, and everything else, so winners would be few and far between.
Russians can reasonably feel quite angry at the onslaught against them. I'm surprised they haven't gone nuclear long ago to confront USA crazies with what they're doing. Americans murdering Russians while enjoying the scene on TV and banking $billions from sales of weapons and corruptocracy must be enraging. I'm surprised Hunter Biden hasn't got some Novichok on his door handle or polonium 210 in his cigarettes and whisky. Perhaps Russia is saving that for when things get truly dire.
Russia does seem to be doing okay in the conventional conflict. Avoiding MAD is good. The big winner of course is China, while USA wastrels its way to self-destruction, and Russia is forced to become a province of China. Forcing Russia to sell gas to China instead of Germany was a big mistake in the Nordstream bombings.
Before Russia invaded, it looked like a trap, same as Iraq and Saddam fell into when they invaded Kuwait, thereby becoming a live-fire target practise for the USA's military-industrial complex. I'm surprised that Russia has done as well as they have against the DARPA whiz-bang clever technology.
