The IBM clones of the era were not 100% compatible. Many people paid dearly for their mistake by having to repeat the purchase after finding that this or that program only worked with 100% IBM PC compatible machines.

Several of the "clones" were not even disk drive compatible during the first two to three years after August 1981.

Bill Gates' efforts in the PC industry has cost a lot of people a great deal of anguish and unnecessary expense. He should be rewarded in kind.
