There are two changes. One just had a ton of people getting solar before the April 30th deadline to be grandfathered at the charge per electron rate solar owners got to supply electrons to the grid. Now anyone who gets solar, probably me, will only get the actual variable cost PG&E pays for an electron... the idea is it will force us to get batteries to save the electrons to use at night rather than use the lowered cost electrons from the grid. I was thinking it would make sense to get batteries and a NG powered generator (for cloudy days... ) and only detach from the grid to avoid the monthly fixed charge... but they'll probably make that illegal.

The SJ Merc just published a chart of where our electrons come from. It varies between 40 and 60% NG depending on how much we get from hydro power... draught years mean more NG so more expensive.

It cracks me up that we are to eliminate NG heaters to use electric heaters that are powered with NG and about 30% of the power is lost in the transmission lines to heat (adding to global warming?)
