When confronted by an opponent with a different political viewpoint, you are more likely to view what they say as an attack to be countered, rather than a point to be debated.
Forget the whole notion of "different viewpoint" vs. "political attack," because that's irrelevant.

The problem with "whataboutisms" is twofold:

1) It demonstrates that you cannot defend your own viewpoint on its own.

2) It excuses wrongdoing. Two wrongs don't make a right.

In the case of Trump, you don't cancel the Constitution just because your political opponents accused you of conspiring with RuZZia. No one should have to explain why, and yet Broken Clock thinks otherwise.
