>>> Do the cycles improve the odds when playing the VIX? <<

Once you answer the question as to whether cycles improve the odds playing the indices -- don't you have your answer? There aren't many "slow and extended" declines? Markets generally go down faster than they go up??

But UVXY?? All I can say is WHY??!!!!

It's got to be THE worst way to play VIX spike. There is a terrible thresholding effect with it. Without getting a huge percentage move in the VIX -- you'll see hardly ANY move in it.

You'd be better off doing one of two things if you have reason to believe the VIX is going to spike within a certain timeframe:

Buy inverse leveraged index fund -- or simply buy calls on the VIX itself.

The vix funds never perform unless you get outright armageddon for the markets.

Simply terrible ways to play a VIX spike. I would go so far as to say: Ripoffs!!
