Those who were passengers on board the Hindenburg might have disagreed..
It's not the same thing. The Hindenburg used hydrogen gas for lift. What powered the actual airship was diesel.

We don't need to hold hydrogen gas in a huge, combustible chamber anymore for lift. Instead, the hydrogen would be used to power the engines in modern aircraft.
