This comment must be qualified.

I think Apple is dead as a PC manufacturer. That battle is lost. Apple can still make a comeback as a graphic workstation manufacturer (a la SGI), NCs and high-end servers powered by Rhapsody, but the core PC market is taken (Bill has posted here figures showing how unlikely a comeback is). Apple can only nibble at the edges.

(Not that the edges are anything to sneer at: Silicon Graphics, NCD and SUN make handsome money there).

I'm neutral on Apple because I think it now has a chance to make it in these new niches.
