Wharfie,
I tend to credit scientific curiosity and the possibility of profit from, I dunno, maybe a new Pfizer vaccine, with driving the physical and biological sciences.
That's the thing. Pfizer can't afford to fake the studies like the universities can. They're not creating studies for PR. Instead, they're doing studies to ensure that their treatments don't end up killing patients, or as Bill put it, cause patients to "grow third arms."

This is why I have often argued that the most stringent adherents to the scientific process belong to Big Pharma, much to the chagrin of the anti-vaxxers in the Q Continuum.

As for climate change research, my idea still stands. I can grab a lot of climate change funding by creating an AI model that looks like a legit simulation of Earth's climate. Unlike Big Pharma studies, if my model is inaccurate, no one is going to die. In fact, no one is even going to give a Brandon.
