Rebecca, I'm sorry I responded to you yesterday but I must have omitted to hit 'Publish.' Much of what I wrote is now beside the point. It isn't standard to suspend trading like that is it? Not that I'm complaining, it seems reasonable to have a cessation while the news is disseminated.

With regards to royalties, someone posted that ATCI were staying out of the VISX - BEAm royalty dispute. Well, that's true, they hope not to pay either! They are offering doctors a choice: they'll collect and pay the procedure fees claimed by Pillar Point (set up by VISX and BEAM), or they'll put those monies into an escrow account. They plan to challenge the applicability of patents. If ATCI win they'll split the escrow with the doctors. If they loose, then the Escrow goes to Pillar point and I presume ATCI pays legal fees and extra liabilities, but I am unsure of this last point.

Their business plan is to focus on those doctors who have had the most success with previously approved. The money for the manufacturers is in the procedure fees. They do not have to prove the concept to the doctors who have already made a success and recovered the cost of a laser. They just have to show them that ATCI has the next generation, and it is a sufficient improvement to justify junking the first. As I said earlier, the decline in loss of BCVA should make the doctors and their patients feel easier.
