Ian : Thanks for the link to that cpq article. From what I got from reading the article is this:

CPQ price cut is deliberate and part of a strategic marketing plan to achieve the following:

1.To maintain CPQ's leadership position in the server business.(32%)
2.To pave the way for the new Intel Deschute Pentium II processors,
as CPQ's ProLiant servers now have the aging Pentium Pro processors.

As for loosing ground to DELL and IBM, I don't know, they all are going to fight it out in the server market place and the market share of each is going to vary from time to time and we will have to wait untill the numbers come out each quarter.What is going to be interesting though will be to see whether anyone else will follow CPQ in the price cut arena, normally it happens right after one the majors takes the initiate and everybody will follow to maintain their share of the market and not to loose any ground.
