Yes, reminded me of Lytton, and also of Paradise, California.
Super fast moving fire that exploded due to such dry conditions and gusting winds.
We're hearing that it started in someone's backyard and spread into the forest behind them.
So much of the forests here are coniferous. That's not all natural -- a lot by design because the market in recent years has been mostly for spruce and pine for construction and logs for the pulp mills. Been a lot of use of glyphosate in the past to create saleable forests. However, that has also created forests that are super combustible and very vulnerable to becoming dry during droughts and, of course, a heavy layer of fallen needles on the ground. Should have left the deciduous trees as they help create fire breaks and prevent crowning in fires. The Eastern Hemlock are being absolutely savaged by Hemlock Woolly Adelgid - an invasive pest from Asia. Dead and dying trees all through the forests. Add to that a huge amount of downed and damaged trees from Hurricane Fiona. Hope we get some rain soon. Forecast was for possible rain on Thursday. Now they are saying Friday night maybe, and Saturday. This keeps happening. Looks like rain and then it never happens. It's a bad scene for sure. Saw a couple of more fires happen in different areas overnight. Hopefully we don't get any around here as there is a lot of dead standing Hemlock. Tiki torches.
