I agree, Jim.

It certainly has been amazing to watch professional shorters like Asensio maipulate public opinion to their advantage. They sell short at 25 or so, and keep up the selling pressure while circulating rumors that the company is nothing but a scam, to create the downward momentum that soon turns into a panic selloff. Then while all the newbies to this game start to echo and amplify the rumors while themselves going short, the Asensios use this extra liquidity to cover, leaving the little guys holding the bag when the price starts to recover. I wonder if the pros are going long about now in anticipation of a squeeze.

By the way, I bet that one of the advantages that an additional board member like Dresner brings to BioTime is a higher standard of corporate governance, at least in the eyes of the NASD. (Dresner's on a lot of other boards and must be quite experienced as an "outside" director.) Since BTIM already meets all of the technical conditions (float, market cap, etc.) to advance from Small Cap to National Market listing status on the NASDAQ, this might be the only additional requirement BTIM needs to "go national". (You can find the listing requirements for both the Small Cap and National NASD markets at NASD's website.)

National Market listing would increase the perceived quality of, and thus the demand for, BTIM stock. It might also increase the number of market makers in the stock and also cause certain NASDAQ index funds to automatically buy shares.
