The last thing Lucent should want, if it is in fact interested in acquiring Tlabs, would be to announce its firm intention to acquire Tlabs to the whole world months before it can, in fact, "lock up" a deal with a contract, bust up fees in the contract, etc. That is the best imaginable prescription for shopping the company to all other possible bidders and driving the price up to the highest possible levels. You and I might like the idea, but Lucent; hardly. Doug
