Zeuspaul and Dan,

I'm in complete agreement that it would not disrupt the thread for Dan to ignore someone and would benefit the thread to reduce wars -- except Dan might post things already posted by his ignoree, thus increasing the duplicate information on the thread.

Prodigy is a proprietary service requiring their proprietary software to access, but they do offer a free 30 day trial if you want to call them to order the software and take a look. 1-800-PRODIGY, if I recall. I'm no longer a member.

The quantity of the posts wouldn't be an issue in terms of programming. Once it's built in to be able to ignore, it'd be an on/off switch. The way it's done there, if I recall, at the entry to each forum (BB) the page offered an ignore function and you would type in the ID of the ignoree. I don't recall if it was a system-wide ignore; the flag probably had to be set for each forum. One could remove the ignoree from ignored status on that entry page to each forum as well.

I personally don't care if a group ignores a poster, as long as I don't have to read their rabble-rousing about it or their crowing about it, on the board. Let them discuss it in private mail. The private mail function here has been an excellent addition and could be used to reduce the bandwidth of the line noise.

There have been closed-minded people throughout the ages, and it's their loss if they miss valuable information.

Do you think a thread or two will turn into just a few mindless morons only talking to each other, reinforcing their own ideas? Wouldn't newcomers resist their demands to ignore others, and engage in wider and more enlightening discourse?

Regards,
Linda
