Yes, you are correct, I don't work for Apple. I do the best I can as a former computer consultant who specialized in Apple products to help those who need it here as the "emcee" of this forum. I do the same among friends and family.

As for the WHY of this happening to your phone (and others, as you say), I have no answer for that.

As for iPhones or iOS in general, all I can say is, shit happens.

My old iPhone 5s bricked itself years ago simply by plugging in the power cable to charge it. All it would do is restart over and over again. I couldn't fix it, a trip to the Apple Store didn't fix it, so it was replaced under warranty with an iPhone 6.

If you've had this problem for so long with that particular iPhone, why haven't you had it replaced or why hasn't Apple offered to do so? Do you have an insurance plan with your carrier? If not, I understand replacing an iPhone is very expensive and you're absolutely right, it should "just work" without needing that.

If this is a widespread problem with iOS 16.5, I hope we'll see a fix soon or Apple will have a major problem on its hands. I have yet to see this issue reported at any of the major Apple news outlets I follow.
