Very interesting article. I'm glad LSI doesn't have all its eggs in that basket, but it is nice to imagine that year 2000 market. It sounds like Cube is in there pretty deep already, and backward compatibility is important b/c the disks will work with both VCD and DVD (which means that VCD doesn't automatically booted out of the market should DVD take hold). Still, there's room for more than one player.
China is a huge market. I find the strategy to be way cool.........bringing the technology on through the market of least resistance! I only hope that Asia in general can right itself, and we don't get rising tensions between those countries while some of them are going through some very painful financial reforms.

Here's a perspective on the recent rise in semis, not unlike what you've been saying.
