| | | I have not been vaccinated ( for health reasons) and was vehemently opposed to mask mandates when I lived in the Las Vegas/Henderson area. We were so appalled by what went on that we picked up and left and chose to live in Airbnbs throughout the states of CA and AZ. In retrospect, it was one of the best decisions we ever made.
Let me tell you what this Fascist pig Governor of Nevada, Sisolak did while he was governor. He made State workers who refused to get vaccinated pay a monthly fine of $60,which was taken out of their pay check. He also had businesses fined who allowed workers or anyone who entered the business without a mask. I use to get managers and business owners plea with me to wear a face covering so they wouldn't get fined. I complied and wore a cheap plastic face covering. Nevada is a very social libertarian State and was opposed to mask mandates or face coverings. Moreover, this fuckin asshole of a governor, Sisolak, was caught on camera without a mask while in a restaurant. There were also fines for not wearing a mask if one was within 12 feet of a person on the outside.
I voted Sisolak out ( via absentee ballot) while voting Dem for the rest of the ticket. And that is how the majority of my Nevadans voted also: the Dems won every race in the State on my ballot except for Governor.
So, I am somewhat sympathetic to what RFK, Jr. has to say about vaccines. I am a social libertarian and think the decision to be vaccinated is a personal choice which the State should not interfere with. That is to say, if you want to get vaccinated, fine. If you do not want to get vaccinated, that's fine too. But I am personally opposed to vaccinations for myself. But I have no right to tell others what to do. That is my stance on abortion also. I am personally opposed to abortion. But I don't feel that I have a right to tell a woman what to do with the fetus in her body prior to the brain being formed. So, I am pro choice for others, but not for myself; if my wife was pregnant and had an abortion, which is what she did, it caused me much dismay and pain.
Another thing I want to bring out here. There are very few conservatives who don't have a liberal side to them. Trump and Bush had liberal sides to them - though they were primarily conservatives. The same can be said for most liberals. Most liberals have conservative sides to them - though they are liberal in most respects. My point here is that in the age of polarization, there are a number of things that liberals and conservatives share in common.
Of course, on a public forum, I am not opposed to discussing a hot potato political issue. The problem I do have is when moderators ban someone for expressing an idea or view that does not conform to the so-called liberal/conservative party line. That creates more polarization than is necessary and fosters resentment and anger. |
