>> I'd like to read from him what that unbeatable new technology is<<

I believe that Rod has been referring to DVD and CD-R when he talks about these amazing new technologies coming down the pike. Since DVD is being brought to market by some of the biggest names in electronics, including Sony, he has a point that they know something about marketing.

Rod has stated that he wants Iomega to fail, so that the world will not be saddled by clunky old magnetic storage media any more.

I, too, am a fan of optical storage. It's very sexy and has some technical advantages in terms of reliability.

But I can't help thinking that he's missing the mark by a meaningful margin. ALL optical storage technologies are more complex than magnetic technologies. In the storage biz, simple, fast and cheap seems to work best.

Rod wants us all to wait until the optical camp can get DVD-RW out the door. But Hell, by the time cheap, fast, DVD-RW is ready, we'll all be swimming in the write-once CD's he expects us to use for backup in the meantime.

Although mentioning the Alka Seltzer stomach ads as an example of great marketing may be silly, there is no question that the Iomega marketing department has been kicking ass. They're making the Zip a household name, and sexy, too.

Just some of my thoughts on the various topics in this thread.

BTW, I've begun to find Rod M. funny, in the same way that Rush Limbaugh is funny. I don't often agree with Rush, either, but he cracks me up sometimes.

Still, Rod, it is not I who fails to appreciate the difference between confidence and arrogance.
