I hear you on crypto and paper money.

Criticism to ones favourite hobby horse should always be welcomed. We all suffer from non perfectness.

I think crypto could still function even if they turn off all the service providers btw. The requirement to communicate would create a financial pressure such that new communication centres would spring up all over the place. Regaining control of communications in that case could be problematical for those who turned them off in the first place.

The UK and the USA used to have real silver coins and gold coins to do business. I have some UK 1912 three penny pieces that are 95% silver. That value of silver was enough to buy two pints of beer and a loaf of bread back in the day. A shilling, 5.64 grams of silver, 12p in old money or 5p in the new UK decimal money was enough to keep you going all week at a stretch.

I see crypto and precious metals as a "one / two" knock out punch sequence to fiat currencies. What good is the £50 pound note worth then? -g-

Human Labour was a valued commodity in the days before machines. A Labourer could earn up to 5 shillings a day in London, and that gave you a lifestyle while you were still healthy. Energy for labour was provided by "porter beer".
